The number of flights between Dar es Salaam and Mbeya, in Tanzania, was expected to rise to seven a week as demand for the route increased, low-cost airline fastjet said on Tuesday.

Fastjet would add a Sunday flight from November 24, and three additional weekday flights from December 17, with tickets already on sale.

“The route, which was launched on November 1, has, to date, achieved an average load factor of 97.5%, with a number of flights selling out completely,” the airline said in a statement.

Chief commercial officer Richard Bodin noted that initial passenger numbers had exceeded expectations.

Further, he pointed out that, two months after fastjet first launched the Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg route, the airline was mulling options to increase capacity on this route on the back of solid demand.
