Tontrac highlights integrated logistics and AI solutions at Transport Evolution Africa

Technology company Tontrac System Analytics believes that greater integration between logistics systems and the adoption of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) could unlock significant efficiency gains across Southern Africa's mining supply chains.
Speaking to Engineering News at the Transport Evolution Africa Forum and Expo, Tontrac CEO William Butler said fragmentation between systems remained one of the biggest challenges facing the region's transport and logistics sectors.
Tontrac provides technology solutions to mining companies, transport operators, railway siding operators and ports, including access control, weighbridge management and load-tracking systems.
Butler said a lack of integration between systems creates friction throughout the value chain, particularly around border management and the movement of goods between different logistics nodes.
"We provide visibility across that value chain, from the mine to the final destination," he said, explaining that Tontrac's systems enable customers to track individual loads and predict arrival times with greater accuracy.
Butler said another major opportunity lies in the adoption of agentic AI, which can analyse information, make decisions and execute actions within predefined guardrails.
While AI has become a prominent topic across industries, he believes many companies are still only scratching the surface of its potential.
