South African Airways (SAA) has enhanced its partnership with the airline’s in-flight duty-free concessionaire Tourvest Inflight Retail Services (TIRS), enabling Voyager members to earn miles when buying duty-free products and spend their miles when shopping for duty-free products online.

The carrier’s retail site now allowed SAA Voyager members to earn and spend Voyager miles when they bought items online prior to flying. The purchase would then be delivered to their seat by a crew member upon boarding the aircraft.

Purchases could be made up to 14 weeks before the flight date, but must be bought at least three days before departure.

“October marks another significant milestone for SAA’s [frequent flyer programme] Voyager. Apart from adding redemption for duty-free products, we further simplified matters and adjusted the nonairline redemption options.

“This has resulted in SAA Voyager being able to give a return of between 2.5% and 5% when members earn miles on SAA-operated flights,” noted the airline.

By extending the partnership with TIRS and adding redemptions, SAA said Voyager members would receive a return of 4.7% for spend on SAA-operated flights when redeeming miles on duty-free products.
