Redefine targets 2014 for completion of R505m Sandton property
Redefine Properties on Wednesday said the group’s largest commercial office development to date, the R505-million redevelopment of a commercial office property at 90 Grayston Drive, in Sandton, is on track for completion in July 2014.
Once completed, the 16-storey 19 343 m2 office building would offer nine office levels above an elevated atrium, 11 parking levels comprising five basement levels and six above-ground levels, and its own cafeteria.
In addition, as the company expected a future increase in the use of public transport and a decrease in private vehicle use, the building’s top two parking levels were designed to enable them to be reclaimed as office space.
Redefine Properties development head Mike Ruttell said the project, which aimed to obtain a Green Building Council of South Africa four star Green Star South Africa rating, was indicative of the company’s strategy of increasing the number of premium-grade properties in its investment portfolio.
“We are making good progress on the development and it is exciting to see this landmark taking shape in the sought-after central Sandton node. The development represents an iconic, sustainable office development, which optimises energy consumption, reduces running costs and uses resource-efficient methods of construction and installation of services,” he commented.
Urban Genesis city improvement district manager for Sandton Central Management District Elaine Jack added that Redefine was one of its largest partners in the reshaping of the Sandton area.
“Every development in Sandton Central is a welcome addition to the district, as it means that developers and property owners value the importance of this node,” she said.
90 Grayston is being developed on the site of the former Allcare House, which was demolished in March 2012.
