International packaging and paper group Mondi has completed the acquisition of the industrial bags and craft paper business of Graphic Packaging International, in the US, for $105-million on a debt- and cash-free basis.

Engineering News Online reported last month that Graphic Packaging’s production base comprised an integrated 135 000 t/y craft paper mill, in Arkansas, as well as nine bags plants across the US.

“The combination of the business with Mondi’s existing network will create a leading bags player in North America and expand the group’s growing global footprint in this market,” Mondi Group CEO David Hathorn commented at the time.

Mondi has 36 industrial bags plants in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, South-East Asia and North America, including four plants in Mexico and the US, as well as five craft paper mills in Europe.
