TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian precious gem producer Lucara Diamond Corp on Wednesday said its second exceptional-stone tender for the year had raked in $40.12-million.

The Vancouver-based miner, which mines for diamonds at the flagship Karowe mine, in Botswana, sold 16 diamonds, totalling 1 445 ct for gross revenues of $27 755/ct.

Of the 16 stones sold, 13 sold for more than $1-million each, including four stones that sold for more than $4-million each. The highest value stones sold were a 109.4 ct stone that fetched $6.19-million, or $56 615/ct, and a 118.4 ct diamond that sold for $5.36-million, or $45 225/ct.

"The incredible Karowe diamonds continue to yield spectacular results and the recovery of these exceptional stones also continues. The company's next exceptional stone tender is scheduled for early in the fourth quarter. Potential stones that will be included in this sale include a 239 ct and a 193 ct diamond, recovered during the second quarter,” president and CEO William Lamb said.
