Independent renewable energy developer Dimsum Energy has entered into a strategic partnership with global renewable energy company Goldwind Africa to develop Energy Fields, a large-scale portfolio of renewable energy projects in the Eastern Cape, targeting more than 2 GW of wind, solar and battery storage capacity.

Through this partnership, the parties intend to develop and build utility-scale wind and solar projects in high-resource areas of the Eastern Cape, integrate battery energy storage systems to enhance grid stability and dispachability, support corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) for industrial users and strengthen local supply chains and skills development.

The companies indicate that the scale of the pipeline could unlock further long-term local investment as the projects progress toward construction.

The agreement combines Dimsum Energy’s advanced project pipeline and local development capability with Goldwind’s global expertise in wind turbine supply and energy storage solutions, and the partnership aims to strengthen South Africa’s energy security while delivering sustained in-country value.

Dimsum Energy focuses on utility-scale wind, solar and battery energy storage projects, working closely with landowners and private commercial offtakers.

Its development efforts have been concentrated in the Eastern Cape, where it is advancing Energy Fields, a clustered portfolio designed to achieve economies of scale, enabling the delivery of affordable electricity to South Africans in all sectors of the economy.

Goldwind, a global strategic partner in clean energy with more than 165 GW installed across 49 countries, has been active in South Africa since 2010. To date, the company has been contracted to supply over 2 GW of capacity locally and employs more than 180 people in South Africa.

This development comes at an opportune moment as South Africa’s energy mix is expected to shift significantly over the next decade, with wind energy playing an increasingly central role as coal-fired generation declines and solar penetration deepens.

The partnership places a strong emphasis on local economic participation, including collaboration with landowners, communities and local contractors. Community development initiatives will be delivered through a combination of Goldwind’s localisation programmes and Dimsum Energy’s own platforms, including the Gen-E Foundation and the Harrier Sports Institute, which focus on skills development, youth empowerment and long-term community upliftment in the project areas.

Goldwind will further support localisation through skills transfer and supply chain development.
