Independent power producer BioTherm Energy has won the tender to develop a 20 MW solar project in Ghana.

The company will build, own and operate the facility under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The project will be one of the first of its kind at utility scale for the West African country and paves the way for future developments in the renewable-energy sector.

It will add much-needed power to the Ghana grid, where power interruptions are frequent. It will also provide jobs for the local community.

BioTherm also recently secured 34 MW of solar projects in Burkina Faso and 284 MW of wind and solar projects in South Africa.

“BioTherm Energy is going from strength to strength and this latest award is a significant milestone achievement.

“We are committed to producing clean and sustainable power at competitive pricing, ensuring benefits for local communities. [We] look forward to concluding the necessary agreements with government to take this project into construction,” says CEO Jasandra Nyker.
