Alliance Pipeline planning to restart natural gas pipeline
TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Natural gas pipeline operator Alliance Pipeline plans to restart its mainline pipeline system on Wednesday.
Alliance reported on Tuesday that the restart would begin with receiving the operational linepack, which referred to adding gas to the line to increase pressure.
The company expected to lift the force majeure in place since Friday and resume full contract firm service by Thursday.
Alliance was flaring gas at mainline block valve sites near Arcola and the Alameda compressor station, in south-eastern Saskatchewan, which was expected to be complete by Wednesday.
"Our flaring operation is on track and the amount of hydrogen sulphide in the small segment of pipeline is being reduced to a safe level. Our monitoring indicates that all ambient air-quality standards continue to be met,” commercial operations VP Daniel Sutherland said.
To replace natural gas lost, as a result of the flaring process, and to increase the pressure to expedite the flow in the pipeline, Alliance had issued a request to existing shippers to buy up to 400-million cubic feet of natural gas. As Alliance acquired and received the natural gas, it would begin a carefully controlled restart of the pipeline to achieve the targeted resumption of service on Thursday.
Alliance shut down its mainline pipeline system on Friday after it detected that hydrogen sulphide had entered its system as a result of complications experienced by an upstream operator.
