Project Description
Malawi’s Ministry of Energy has confirmed plans to build a coal-fired power plant in the Kammwamba area, in Zalewa. The project will add 300 MW to the national power grid.
The plant will be designed potentially to increase generation capacity of up to 1 000 MW in future.

The project will cost an estimated $600-million to implement.

The project is expected to take about three years to complete.

A feasibility study has been completed on the project and preparations for the construction of the project are at an advanced stage.
The Malawi government is negotiating for finance from China’s Export-Import Bank.
