KALGOORLIE (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Western Desert Resources has reached an offtake deal with Noble Resources International for iron-ore from the Roper Bar project, in Western Australia.

Under the agreement, Noble would purchase three-million tonnes a year of direct shipping ore from Roper Bar, over a five-year period. Initial shipments were expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year.

Western Desert MD Norm Gardner said that the company had received “dozens” of enquiries for offtake deals over the past two years.

“After a competitive process, Western Desert selected Noble. Apart from having a commercially compelling offer for Western Desert, we have a strong belief that the people we have been dealing with at Noble are like-minded and share our vision for the Roper Bar project.”

Gardner noted that the project remained on schedule and on budget. Roper Bar would, initially, involve the construction of an openpit operation with a capacity of 1.5-million tonnes a year, increasing to three-million tonnes a year by the third year of operation.
