PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Tiger Resources has reported a decrease in copper cathode production during the December quarter, compared with the previous quarter, owing to a leak in the intermediate leach solution (ILS) pond in October last year.

The miner on Tuesday reported that it had produced 4 925 t of copper cathode during the three months under review, compared with the 6 491 t produced in the previous quarter.

Tiger in October revised its full-year production targets following the seepage of the process solution at its Kipoi project, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, to between 23 000 t and 23 600 t, and has hit this target in the full year, producing 23 119 t of copper cathode.

Tiger told shareholders that prompt action averted any impacts to the environment, and noted that remedial work would be undertaken at the end of the wet season to bring the ILS pond back to full production levels. An additional ILS pond would also be constructed.

Meanwhile, as a direct result of the ILS pond damage, cash operating costs for the quarter increased to A$1.96/lb, from A$1.54/lb reported in the previous quarter.
