Thumbs up to coal miners who are transitioning to solar and wind power

Two of South Africa’s largest coal mining companies are showing impressive far-sightedness by taking steps to use renewable sun and wind energy at their coal mining operations.

Major local coal companies, Exxaro and Seriti, have established subsidiary companies to take up clean energy opportunities that are no longer open to thermal coal, while also working with their subsidiaries to transition their own coal mining operations to solar power and wind power.

Both are setting excellent examples of how to sustain businesses in a changing world. The introduction of clean energy is also set to lower mine electricity costs, increase energy security and enhance socioeconomic benefits for local communities. Their wise actions are an all-round win for themselves and all their stakeholders.
