Telecommunications group Telkom on Monday reported the appointment of new head of strategy Dr Miriam Altman, effective June 1.

The group, which was in the “process of reviewing its strategy to ensure that it delivers on its mandate and restores its financial health”, aimed to enhance and complement the expertise leading the embattled group’s turnaround.

Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko noted that Altman, a member of the National Planning Commission, would support the group’s strategy development and execution.

“The appointment of a seasoned executive with strategy and policy development experience is another building block in Telkom’s turnaround process,” he said.

Altman, noting that Telkom was a national asset with a lot to offer all South Africans, including its shareholders, said she looked forward to contributing meaningfully towards its turnaround.

The appointment of Altman supported the earlier appointment of COO Dr Brian Armstrong, he concluded.
