JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – As dual-listed Tawana Resources moves to finalise the maiden resource on its flagship Mofe Creek iron-ore project, in Liberia, by the second quarter, a scoping study was set to consider the fast-tracking of an initial one-million to two-million tonnes-a-year early start-up.

The company would complete the scoping study, which would also examine a longer-term five-to-ten-million-tonne-a-year operation, by July.

Tawana planned to kick off a prefeasibility study (PFS) drilling programme and resource extension work in May and June, respectively, with the PFS expected to start in the third quarter.

Tawana also aimed to submit a mining proposal for the initial two-million-tonne-a-year project in the third quarter, as well as start the Mineral Development Agreement for the proposed longer-term five-million to ten-million tonne-a-year project.

The environmental, social and community baseline studies for both potential operating scenarios were expected to start in the second quarter.
