Metso has launched its largest split geared ring model to date, designed to address the practical challenges associated with traditional full slew bearing replacements.

The two-piece split design of the SCDH4500 is said to enable up to 50% faster installation, while reducing the need for extensive system disassembly. This helps reduce downtime and improve safety by eliminating the use of large cranes and suspended loads, leading to cost savings in labour, equipment hire and lost production.

The company notes that the addition of the new model supports its broader strategy to expand its thickener offering and strengthen its aftermarket capabilities. It says that the advancement represents an improvement in transforming thickener maintenance and helps deliver solutions that improve reliability, enhance safety and support sustainable operations in mining.

The new model integrates with existing Metso SCD drive geometries, aimed at offering compatibility and reliability in demanding applications.

The company asserts that its diverse thickener portfolio combines advanced engineering with sustainability, and a wide range of applications that improve water recovery, reduce chemical consumption, and enhance operational safety.
