Former Deloitte Australia CEO Giam Swiegers has assumed the role of global CEO of the 7 500-employee engineering company, Aurecon.

An accountant by profession, Swiegers started his career working as an auditor at Deloitte South Africa, before becoming managing partner at the Tshwane unit. He has also worked at Deloitte in the US. The last 12 years of his career has seen him head up Deloitte Australia.

“He has a superb record as a CEO and is a great cultural fit for us as a business. His accomplishments in building a great culture and an agile, growing business are a great strategic fit for us as an expanding global business,” Aurecon global chairperson Teddy Daka commented.

“Having worked both locally and abroad, Swiegers brings to our business an understanding of development challenges in both South Africa and beyond and is ideally positioned to ensure we continue to make a significant contribution to the African continent,” added Aurecon South Africa chairperson Lulu Gwagwa.
