Solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility, India
Name and Location
Solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility, India.
Client
Solar technology manufacturer and provider of solar energy services SunEdison and Adani Enterprises, the largest port owner and operator and largest private power provider in India, have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint venture (JV) to develop the project.
Project Description
The project involves the construction of the largest vertically integrated solar photovoltaic manufacturing facility in India.
The facility will create enough solar panels to fuel substantial solar growth in India, furthering India’s goals for clean, renewable-energy independence, and will create up to 20 000 local jobs.
The new facility will be constructed in Mundra, Gujarat, India, over a three-year period. This facility will vertically integrate all aspects of solar panel production on site, including polysilicon refining, as well as ingot, cell and module production.
As the facility is being built, certain portions will be completed first to allow for key production lines to come on line before the entire facility is completed.
This will allow the JV to ramp up production quicker and create more jobs sooner.
Value
The development involves an investment of up to $4-billion, or Rs25 000 crore.
Duration
During the first half of 2015, SunEdison and Adani will complete a comprehensive analysis of the JV opportunity and business plan.
Pending the successful outcome of the study, construction of the facility will begin shortly thereafter.
