Truck- and trailer-body builder Serco Industries has reached a clean‑energy milestone at its Cape Town manufacturing facility, with the site now able to operate fully on solar power throughout the summer months.

The facility is also now in a position to feed surplus electricity back into the Cape Town grid.

Serco commissioned its initial solar system at the end of 2023, and then opted to expand the system.

The company subsequently received permission to enable grid‑tied generation for the export of excess clean energy to the grid, with the tally at an average of 7 008 kWh a month between October last year and February this year.

Serco’s Durban and Johannesburg operations also use solar systems to supplement their manufacturing energy needs.

Serco Industries specialises in the design and manufacturing of insulated and dry freight truck bodies and trailers.
