Integrated chemicals and energy company Sasol will sponsor the fifth yearly Proudly South Africa Buy Local Summit and Expo.

Sasol would use the summit, which would be held in Sandton on Wednesday, to showcase ten of the start-up small, medium-sized and microenterprise (SMMEs) it was developing at its Sasol Business Incubator.

An estimated 500 delegates would participate in this year’s Proudly South African Buy Local Summit and Expo.

“Sasol understands that, as a large corporation, we serve a higher purpose than just running our business profitably,” said Sasol VP of enterprise and supplier development Justice Magagula.

He added that Sasol was aware of the vital role a growing SMME sector played in broadening economic participation and delivering on South Africa’s economic development objectives, which included job creation.

“This is why enterprise and supplier development is such a strong focus of our corporate social investment strategy.”

Through the Sasol Siyakha Enterprise and Supplier Development Fund, the group was also assisting its black-owned suppliers to become sustainable. The aim was to create viable enterprises that could play meaningful economic roles in the communities Sasol operates in, such as create jobs and develop particularly scarce skills.

“It is important for Sasol to ensure that our economic and social development contribution is effective,” said Magagula.

He pointed out that Sasol adopted a focused multipronged approach to supporting existing and potential SMME suppliers through financial and nonfinancial measures.
