Independent upstream oil & gas company SacOil has appointed Sasol corporate finance VP Damian Matroos company CFO with effect from February 1, 2015, replacing acting FD Tariro Mudzimuirema, who would return to the position of FM on the same date.

Matroos holds a BCom Accounting degree and postgraduate diploma in accounting from the University of Cape Town and is a qualified chartered accountant with over 15 years’ experience in corporate finance in the UK and, more recently, in South Africa.

He was currently responsible for mergers and acquisitions and specialised funding at Sasol, before which he held the position of group corporate finance GM at the petrochemicals group.

Matroos played a significant corporate finance role on a number of Sasol’s major capital projects, including its mining and upstream activities.

Prior to working at Sasol, he worked in the UK in various senior management roles responsible for corporate finance and strategy.
