New ruggedized MUSBR USB-C devices provide the latest affordable high-speed connectivity for a large variety of design applications
RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc, the global distributor for engineers, announced availability of the new Amphenol MUSBR series of ruggedized USB-C connectors and dust caps. Designed for use by electronic design engineers working with the latest USB Type-C technology, applications cover diverse sectors including: smartphones, tablets, PCs and laptops; power packs and chargers; and applications in areas such as industrial machinery.
Key features of the MUSBR range of PCB-mounted USB-C 3.1 connector receptacles include rugged construction and an IP67 rating for harsh environments. The connectors are capable of supporting high-speed data transmission rates and handling up to 100W of power. The connector siting provides its robustness, which is inside a high-temperature thermoplastic housing encased in a nickel-plated die-cast zinc outer shell with stainless-steel rear shields for extra protection. The connectors are available with right angle or vertical solder tails to provide extra design flexibility.
The range also features a reversible plug interface that ensures the plugs are able to mate first time in any orientation. This makes them much easier to use, as well as eliminating misalignment and mating issues. The compact design also makes them small enough for use with mobile phones and robust enough for laptops and tablets.
Also available separately from RS are high-temperature silicone rubber dust caps, for use with the MUSBR series of panel-mount USB-C connectors. They provide extra protection and prevent water and dust ingress when the connectors are not in use. They have a brass nickel-plated bushing with a 2.57mm diameter hole for mounting, and are available in black and grey colours.
These USB-C devices from Amphenol supplement the continued support by RS for the new USB-C 3.1 standard and are now available from RS.
