Project Description
The project involves the refurbishing of six 69 MW Kaplan units for the Riga hydropower plant, located on the 1 020 km long Daugauva river, in Latvia. As a result of the refurbishment, production at the plant will increase by at least 20 GWh/y.
The power plant’s rehabilitation will extend its life by at least 40 years and increase its efficiency.
Value
The contract is valued at more than €100-million.
Duration
One unit per year will be refurbished for the next eight years and the renovation will be completed in 2022.

Alstom has been awarded the contract to refurbish the Riga hydropower plant.
The scope of the contract includes the refurbishment of the turbines, the generators, a new control system and auxiliary equipment.
