R10m up for grabs at W Cape Funding Fair
Entrepreneurs and innovators will, this week, vie for some R10-million in seed funding that will be made available by investment groups at the inaugural Western Cape Funding Fair, to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Wednesday.
The fair, which was a joint initiative between the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism and professional services firm Deloitte, would see 40 businesses making presentations to various unnamed funding bodies during closed sessions.
The public were, however, invited to attend the exhibition and panel discussions, during which the funding institutions and business chambers would exhibit and engage with delegates.
Western Cape Economic Opportunities Minister Alan Winde, who would deliver the event’s opening address, said he was confident that it would assist budding entrepreneurs and create opportunities for employment and economic growth.
“Ensuring that entrepreneurs have access to financial support networks is a key part of our strategy to ensure we foster small and medium[-sized] businesses. Through the Funding Fair – a joint initiative between government and the private sector – we are connecting entrepreneurs with the right investors to take their businesses forward, better together,” he said in a statement.
