Information and communication technology group Pinnacle on Tuesday became the hundred-and-twenty-sixth group to join State-owned power utility Eskom’s 49M energy-saving initiative.

The pledge was expected to filter through to all the subsidiaries and companies within the group, including AxizWorkgroup, Pinnacle Africa, DataNet, CentraFin, Infrasol, Merqu Communications, JAG Engineering, Pinnacle Business Solutions, PinnPos, Devtrade, PinnSec, e-Secure and Modrac.

“As an enterprise-sized organisation, we understand that our business activities have an impact on the environment and it is to this effect that we have decided to commit to being energy efficient as an organisation and to implement energy efficient technologies in our business facilities to reduce our energy use,” Pinnacle CEO Arnold Fourie said.

Over the last few years, Pinnacle introduced initiatives to curb its energy use. One measure had been the virtualisation of its server farm, which had since saved the national grid an average of 32 kVA a month after the number of servers had been reduced by 136.
