TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian alumina producer Orbite Aluminae on Tuesday said it had appointed Glenn Kelly as its executive VP and COO.

Kelly would join Orbite in the newly created positions effective May 21, from where he would report to Orbite president and CEO Richard Boudreault, while all other executive officers of the company would report to Kelly.

“We are excited to add someone of Glenn Kelly’s calibre to the Orbite management team. The common thread throughout Glenn’s diverse career is his proven ability to successfully execute on projects that have created significant value for stakeholders,” chairperson Lionel Léveillé said.

“Glenn brings a depth of experience in the design and construction of industrial facilities as well as in project management. As Orbite moves forward with its high-purity alumina plant, and its proposed red mud remediation and smelter-grade alumina projects, we anticipate that Glenn’s experience in operations management as well as his proven record in growing successful enterprises will be crucial to the company’s success,” Boudreault added.

Kelly would join Orbite from Canadian innovator CO2 Solutions, where he had been president and CEO since August 2008.

“I am extremely excited to be joining Orbite at such an important moment in its development. Orbite has developed an innovative and multifaceted breakthrough technology whose market potential is truly large. My role will be to assist Richard to execute on this potential,” Kelly said.

Meanwhile, Orbite also said it had created a new board committee to assist the company’s executive officers in advancing its project.

Orbite had also restructured its disclosure committee, which included executive officers, to help ensure the company always adheres to its continuous disclosure requirements.

The company’s TSX-listed stock rose 7.92% to close at C$1.09 apiece on Tuesday.
