Project Description
The project forms part of Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis development programme and is intended to secure a reliable and sustainable water supply for future growth areas.

The project will increase the NTM WTW’s water treatment capacity from 230 000 m³/d to 440 000 m³/d through the construction of new water-treatment facilities within the existing works and upgrades to associated infrastructure.

Spare space is being included to allow for potential future expansion to 640 000 m³/d.

The scope of work includes the laying of about 8 km of freshwater trunk mains with diameters ranging from 1 400 mm to 2 000 mm, connecting the NTM WTW to supply systems near Pok Oi Interchange and Tan Kwai Tsuen; the construction of an estimated 600 m tunnel for raw water mains (2 000 mm to 2 800 mm in diameter), with chambers and a ventilation building; and the extension of the Ngau Tam Mei Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir by about 54 000 m³.
