Project Description
In October 2013, a consortium led by Sonnedix was awarded preferred bidder status by South Africa’s Department of Energy under the third round of the department’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.

The project aims to construct and operate a large-scale solar PV power project, with a total generation capacity of 86 MW, enough to power an estimated 30 000 households.

Value
The project represents an investment of more than R1.2-billion.

Duration
Financial close is targeted for July 2014, with construction work starting shortly thereafter. Commercial operation is planned for the second half of 2015.

Latest Developments
Sonnedix has appointed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company juwi as the preferred EPC contractor for the project.

The project will be juwi’s largest EPC project to date.
