MTN Ghana delivers solid half-year performance

Telecommunications operator MTN Ghana delivered a strong performance for the first half of the year, with continued expansion across voice, data and mobile financial services.

For the six months ended June 30, MTN Ghana achieved 18.8% growth in service revenue.

Voice revenue expanded by 14.8% on the back of a 6.1% increase to 18.9-million in the company’s active subscriber base, while data revenue grew by 27.7%, with active data subscribers up 15% to 7.4-million.

MTN Mobile Money revenue increased by 53.3% and active Mobile Money subscribers edged up 2% to 8.5-million.

For the first half of the year, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) surged 50.3% to GH¢1.2-billion with a 10.4 percentage point rise in the Ebitda margin to 49.5%.

Capital expenditure for the half-year under review reached GH¢803-million, with investments in the network resulting in the deployment of 280 second-generation, 557 third-generation, 900 fourth-generation and 100 rural telephony sites.

MTN Ghana declared an interim dividend of GH¢0.02 a share.
