Moto gold project, Democratic Republic of Congo
Name and Location
Moto gold project, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Project Description
An optimised feasibility study on the Moto gold project has concluded that project economics would be significantly enhanced by introducing a high-grade underground mine and adopting a value acceleration strategy for the openpit mine scheduling.
The key features of the planned underground mine include a 12-year mine life, with a steady-state production level of about 1,5-million tons a year, and mineral reserves of 11,6-million tons, at 6,2 g/t gold for 2,3-million ounces of gold.
The key features of the planned openpits include a seven-year mining period (excluding the prestrip period), followed by a stock reclamation period of nine years; and mineral reserves of 30,7-million tons, at 3,2 g/t gold for 3,2-million ounces of gold.
Significant potential also exists to further enhance the project economics by increasing plant throughput with incremental capital expenditure, underpinned by potential increases to underground mineral reserves and accelerated treatment of openpit ore stocks.
Value
The preproduction capital and infrastructure cost estimates total $438-million, including contingency funds and 18 months of underground development activities.
