As part of MAXAM’s renewed investment into the Southern African market (under the leadership of new Regional Director Schalk Burger) the company today successfully concluded its first blast using its new generation range of high energy RIOFLEX Blends in the Mpumalanga region on an overburden blast.

RIOFLEX 7000 is a Blend of ammonium nitrate and MAXAM’s unique Watergel Bulk explosives technology. The timing of the introduction of this product into the Sothern African market is ideal when the mining industry is under severe pressure to produce cost effectively.

The introduction of this product was made possible by a substantial capital investment into MAXAM’s RIOFLEX production plant in Gauteng.

As is common knowledge, the bulk explosives industry in South Africa has seen no significant technological advancements over many years, and MAXAM believes that the new generation high energy RIOFLEX Blend will transform mining. This product has a reduced water content when compared to typical emulsions currently available in the Southern African market. Water reduces the chemical reaction and consumes energy to vaporise.
