Project Description
The 63 000 m² mall, in Klerksdorp, will consist of three major food anchors and fashion, lifestyle, entertainment, sport and restaurant offerings, with space to accommodate 145 stores. Major retailers that have signed up as tenants in the mall include Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Checkers, Edgars and Foschini.
As part of the development, Redefine is also building two access points from the N12 highway closest to Klerksdorp, and an extra third lane for the highway adjacent to the mall’s boundary.
Value
The Matlosana Mall’s value on completion is estimated at R1.1-billion.
Duration
Construction started in April 2013 and the mall’s doors are expected to open in October.
Latest Developments
The Matlosana Mall is on schedule to officially open on October 23, according to Redefine.
About 90% of mall space has been let, with the remaining leases under negotiation.
The two Matlosana Mall highway access points are scheduled for completion shortly before the mall opens.
In addition to the 2 000 temporary jobs created during the 19-month construction period, the mall will also provide 1 500 permanent jobs once open.
