Project Description
Kobe Steel aims to construct a gas-fired power station in Moka, Tochigi prefecture, Japan.

The plant under consideration will consist of two 700 000 kW-class gas turbine combined-cycle power plants, which will be fired by city gas and yield a combined generation capacity of about 1.4 million kilowatts. The plants are envisaged to be built adjacent to Kobe Steel’s Moka plant at the No 5 Kogyo Danchi, an industrial park in Kinugaoka, Moka.

The project is estimated at $836-million.

Duration
Start-up of operations is targeted for between 2019 and 2021.

Latest Developments
Kobe Steel has announced that it will undertake an environmental-impact assessment to construct a gas-fired power station in Moka. Environmental assessment procedures were planned to begin in late March.

The assessment is expected to take about three years.
