Pioneers of wind energy in South Africa

Established in 2008, G7 Renewable Energies is at the forefront of South Africa’s burgeoning renewable-energy industry and prides itself on championing the adoption and development of renewable technologies in the country.

Current projects

G7’s expanding portfolio of projects includes two successful wind farms in the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, namely:

  • The 147 MW Roggeveld project has the Lowest per kilowatt hour tariff in the country and is currently under  construction between Laingsburg and Sutherland, in the Western Cape
  • The 5 MW Klawer wind farm project near Cape Town

In addition, G7 has over 1 GW of wind energy facilities in the development phase.

Team of experts

G7 founder and director Nicolas Rolland explains that the company draws on the in-depth knowledge and global experience of its’ team of experts focusing on all aspects of wind farm development.

“Combined, we have international experience in the development of large-scale projects, the operation and management of wind farms, as well as specialist knowledge of environmental science, atmospheric sciences, and wind measurement campaigns, meeting and exceeding international standards.”

Investing in youth and jobs

G7 sees youth development in South Africa as a key priority and more than 80% of its 33 interns over the past few years are now working in the renewable energy industry.  “We firmly believe in the huge potential for job creation in the wind energy industry, especially among the youth,” asserts G7 co-founder and MD Kilian Hagemann.

Focusing on wind energy, G7 strives to work towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 7: namely “access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”, also the inspiration for its name.

G7 ensures the long-term viability of its projects through its professional reputation, expertise, teamwork and strong core value system.
