Fongoqa steps in as chair of construction charter council
Felix Fuzile Fongoqa has been selected to chair the Construction Sector Charter Council (CSCC) for a period of two years, effective August 1.
Appointed by Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi, the Charter Council and relevant stakeholders, the former Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) president has been tasked with steering and positioning the CSCC as a decisive authority in monitoring and overseeing the implementation of the construction sector empowerment scorecard.
The CSCC is made up of 17 construction industry constituency organisations representing emerging and established businesses, labour unions and government.
Fongoqa stepped in as the council undertook a baseline project to assess the performance, impact and progress of empowerment and transformation of the sector since 2009.
Fongoqa had been welcomed across industry, with the Black Business Council in the Built Environment, the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Council and the National Black Contractors and Allied Trades Forum, besides others lauding his appointment.
The new chairperson is also executive chairperson of Iliso Consulting and formerly served as a board member of water board Amatola Water and the Eastern Cape Provincial Housing Board, as well as deputy chairperson of the South African Black and Technical Allied Careers Organisation.
