Energy demand to rise next week

State-owned power utility Eskom on Thursday said it expected demand to increase next week as a cold front moved to Gauteng.

According to the power utility’s state of the power system update, the national power grid remained stable, but constrained.

The utility had capacity of 34 645 MW to meet Thursday’s peak demand of 32 388 MW, with current planned maintenance and unplanned outages accounting for 4 075 MW and 4 769 MW respectively.

Eskom forecast peak demand at 30 673 MW on Friday, 31 218 MW on Saturday, 32 046 MW on Sunday, 34 599 MW on Monday, 34 708 MW on Tuesday and 34 654 MW on Wednesday.
