DTI to promote black industrialists programme through roadshow
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will embark on a national roadshow to promote and create awareness of the Black Industrialists (BI) programme.
The roadshow followed the successful proclamation of the black industrialists policy in February, with sessions to be held in all nine provinces. The first session will be held at the BMW Rosslyn plant on May 19.
Ttargeted stakeholders included the business community, economic forums, local economic development managers, development finance institutions and other financial institutions.
The BI programme formed part of government’s initiatives to expand the country’s industrial base and inject new entrepreneurial dynamism in the economy as highlighted in the latest iteration of the Industrial Policy Action Plan.
Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Mzwandile Masina explained that the campaign would focus on building strategic partnerships, as well as speak to the policy intent of BI and unpack the guidelines and illustrate completion of the BI application form by applicants.
“Our economic transformation depends on two interconnected themes, the radical change of the productive base of the South African economy and the challenge of changing the patterns of participation in the economy. It is, therefore, imperative that we advocate for the development of black industrialists as an integral part of the industries,” he said.
