The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Trade are set to host a trade and investment opportunities business seminar to promote bilateral trade and explore investment prospects between the two African States.

The seminar would form part of the implementation process of a memorandum of understanding, which both countries signed in August 2009, to enhance and promote economic relations.

The DTI said it had received a positive response from the Egyptian business community, with over 120 business and government representatives from both countries expected to engage in discussions.

“Egypt is an important economy in North Africa and has one of the largest economies in Africa. This economic potential, along with the recent political changes in Egypt, present an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties,” the DTI said in a statement.

Key areas of focus would include agriculture and agroprocessing, chemicals, information and communication technology, tourism, construction and engineering, mining, transport and maritime services.

The seminar would take place on February 18 and 19 at Emperors Palace, in Johannesburg.
