Deep Yellow appoints Netscher as chairperson
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed uranium producer Deep Yellow has announced that Tim Netscher is to succeed Mervyn Greene as chairperson of the company from September 1.
Netscher, who is currently MD of iron-ore company Gindalbie Metals, has previously held several high-level positions, including that of senior VP of Newmont Asia Pacific, MD of Vale Australia, executive director of Impala Platinum and project director at BHP Billiton, as well as senior VP, director and COO of PT Inco.
He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering, a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA.
Greene, who has served on the board since 2006 and as chairperson since 2007, and who would continue as a nonexecutive director, said the board had, for some time, been looking to appoint a Perth-based chairperson.
“We are very pleased to have attracted someone of Tim’s calibre to serve as chairperson and believe that this strengthening of the board will allow the company to create a strong market position and enhance shareholder value, as the nuclear fuels sector responds to increased demand amid a time of significant supply constraint,’’ he said.
Netscher added that, while the uranium industry faced several challenges, its prospects would start to improve as nuclear power moved to take a prominent place in the world’s energy mix.
“Despite the difficult market conditions, Deep Yellow continues to work towards positioning itself to take advantage of this anticipated change in sentiment,” he said.
