Egelquip was established in 2015 by MD Kieron Geoghegan. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa Egelquip works together on specialised projects throughout the African continent and abroad with its sister company Finn MacCool DRC, based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The focus of the partnered entities is that of waste management, waste disposal, renewable energy resources, scrap metal recycling and fuel transportation. With landfill space in Africa fast filling up and a growing international emphasis being placed on environmental law and sustainability it is paramount that solutions to the growing waste problems faced by private and government sectors be dealt with effectively, efficiently and safely.

“Our job is to find the best and most cost-effective solutions for our clients to move away from dumping waste into landfill sites by ensuring that we recover value from their disposed of materials through conversions into clean energy, reuse and recycling.

“We conceptualise unique operations based on the individual needs of a specific client by optimising the way they deal with their various waste streams. We offer the answers for such projects as well as the specialised equipment and human resources to run these projects,” says Egelquip operations director Sinead Geoghegan.

Both Egelquip and Finn MacCool will have a presence at this year’s bauma CONEXPO AFRICA from March 13 to 16 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Marketing director and projects manager Tebogo Modisane will be leading the group’s team at the event to highlight the presence of its distinguished equipment agencies in the African market.

As a premium service provider within the plant and machinery industry, Egelquip supplies robust products capable of working in the tough African environment. Its portfolio includes the following brands:
- Tana: A quality Finnish brand which manufactured the first purpose-built landfill compactors in the world, the most versatile shredders on the market as well as some of the most advanced screening equipment.
- Allu: A specialist Finnish attachment manufacturer offering distinctive and versatile excavator, loader and skid steer attachments for numerous applications, including waste material handling, composting, crushing, screening, soil stabilisation, environmental remediation and pipeline backfilling/paddling.
-Stehr: A German mechanical engineering company which manufactures special attachment units for civil engineering and agricultural projects as well as for the roadworks industry. Its offering includes plate compactors, grader attachments, trench cutters, pipe layers and the company’s prized universal mini graders.
-Ozgul: A Turkish manufacturer of durable, long-lasting truck trailers built to high European standards with African specifications. The range offering includes damper trailers, cement bulk trailers, lowbeds, flatbeds, rock tippers, container carriers, tankers and king-pin trailers ranging from three to eight axles.

Egelquip offers all the necessary backup and support for its agency equipment with a dedicated and hardworking team. This includes servicing, maintenance, repairs, spare parts and technical support, advice and training.

“Price-wise we are extremely competitive and offer the leading equipment on the market.” However, Egelquip understands that in an African application, investment in such specialised equipment is a substantial capital outlay and, therefore, hosts yearly open days so customers can see the equipment in action before buying and, in addition, the group body owns and runs its equipment offerings in its diverse portfolio operations.

The group believes its main business is in Africa, where much development is taking place in the mining, construction and waste industries, providing substantial opportunities in various African countries.

One African country presenting great opportunities in its rapidly growing mining sector is the DRC, where Lubumbashi-based Finn MacCool DRC is run by COO Brendan Geoghegan.

“In a developing environment, Africa presents great opportunities and Finn MacCool DRC has expanded its operations rapidly within the country by creating an outstanding reputation for high-quality service delivery and well-run and well-looked after equipment” explains Sinead Geoghegan.

The group is involved in numerous exciting and technologically advanced projects driven by the passion to make Africa a world leader in its respective industries. Kieron Geoghegan emphasises that the opportunities in Africa are great, “but you need to go out there and find them to be successful. We do it because its hard, not because it’s easy – for every hard thing we accomplish there are fewer people out there doing the same things as we are. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Our goal is to be industry leaders and for those of us with African souls it is never just about the monetary gain, its about making a difference and contributing to the greater good of the African continent.”
