PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Lithium miner Core Lithium has started transporting its first direct shipping ore (DSO) spodumene product from the Finniss lithium mine to the Darwin port, in the Northern Territory, while also announcing the departure of its COO.

The company last month completed the first sale of spodumene DSO from Finniss, selling 15 000 t DSO to several pre-screened participants active in the lithium-ion battery supply chain.

“The transportation of DSO today is another signification milestone for Finniss, and is a very positive step towards our objective to export from Darwin port before the end of the year,” said Core CEO Gareth Manderson.

Meanwhile, COO Blair Duncan has tendered his resignation after more than five years with the company, with Core announcing the appointment of Mike Stone as replacement.

Stone has held multiple leadership positions across a number of commodities in the resources industry, and has operated and worked in large- and smaller-scale openpit and underground environments.

More recently, Stone held the positions of associate director of Mining with KPMG, GM of the Oyu Tolgoi openpit operation and was chief adviser: productivity within Rio Tinto. Stone will join Core on December 5.
