Concrete crushers for reinforced concrete applications

Three new concrete crusher models promise improved operator safety and productivity for a variety of demolition applications, including top-down and interior demolition.

The crushers aim to achieve a high power-to-weight ratio while maintaining operator safety.

Launched by Brokk and manufactured by sister company Darda, the CC440, CC480 and CC580 crushers are equipped with a pressure booster which allows them to operate independently of the carrier’s working pressure, resulting in increased speed and crushing force.

When used in high pressure mode, the CC series models offer faster operation and jaw closing compared to their predecessors. The crushers are particularly suited to applications such as elevator shafts, piers, concrete walls and ceilings where reinforced concrete is present.

In addition, the CC series promises virtually silent operation, which is important on sites with strict noise restrictions, such as interior demolition projects in hospitals and office buildings, where traditional methods, such as hydraulic hammers would be too noisy.

With large jaw openings and a crushing force from 44 t to 54 t, depending on the model, the crushers can handle concrete slabs of 440 mm to 560 mm thick. The crushers can also cut through rebar up to 130 mm in diameter, while keeping to the same size and weight class as their predecessors.

The company states that the models feature wear-resistant, replaceable steel alloy crusher tips and cutter blades and full 360-degree rotation. Additional teeth are available, in order to improve efficiency and crushing, enabling higher breaking forces for hard, thin walls and separation of concrete and rebar.

When paired with a Brokk machine, the concrete crushers can be controlled with a belt-mounted remote-control box, allowing operators to work from a safe distance to reduce the effects of vibration, silica dust or falling debris.
