Granite Power Limited (GPL)  (0.05 MB)

Granite Power Limited (GPL) is a project developer and plant operator that offers:

• Low cost, zero carbon thermal energy systems.
• Heat conversion technology that optimizes the recovery of heat and its conversion to electrical power.  This includes Granex technology which is applied to enhance power generation from waste heat, conventional geothermal and Engineered Geothermal systems and solar-terminals.
• Flexible contract mechanisms, including traditional EPC contracts, build own operated (BOO) and BOO with transfer option
• Consulting services to business and industry for thermal energy systems, including energy efficiency, waste heat recovery, waste heat to power (WHP) including GRANEX Systems.

Teaming Agreements

GPL maintains a flexible approach to business opportunities, and can:

• Provide GRANEX technology and consulting services to EPC and EPCM contractors as well as consulting companies
• Licence GRANEX technology to suitably qualified strategic partners

Waste Heat to Power Technology

GPL’s wide ranging experience in thermal power generation provides the capability to select and customize the appropriate solution for customers – from steam systems to conventional and supercritical Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems.

GRANEX Technology

GRANEX is a supercritical step-out of conventional ORC technology that provides a more compelling case for the commercial merits of converting waste heat to power – thereby enabling many projects to proceed that would otherwise be un-commercial. The development of GRANEX was commenced in 2007 by the University of Newcastle (Australia) and GPL, with the support of an AusIndustry REDI grant. The technology is a robust and versatile cycle that is significantly more efficient than conventional Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology, without additional complexity.  It can offer significant improvements in net electricity that can be generated from a given heat source. GPL’s highly experienced multi-disciplinary team will gather and analyse plant data, and deliver solutions that are technically feasible and commercially optimized.

Whilst the Power Block is relatively standardized, the associated heat recovery system usually presents unique challenges, e.g.

• Waste heat sources may be dispersed and difficult to reach and consolidate, or from non-continuous processes.
• They may contain chemical and/or other contaminants that impact the complexity, cost and efficiency of the heat recovery process.
• Site constraints may make WHP systems difficult to economically install
• The WHP plant must not adversely affect operation of the Customer’s plant

Condensing and cooling systems required for Australia’s hot, dry climate are generally very different to those of the “Western World”, for which most ORC systems have been developed GPL has the capabilities and Australian engineering expertise to effectively handle the Total Project Scope of the WHP.  Customers can have different contact preferences, and GPL’s flexible approach aims to meet such requirements.  The Build Own Operate mechanism is often an attractive proposition, as in addition to reducing power cost, it enables the customer to focus capital and operation on his core business.
