Comair presents revised wage offer
Airline Comair has made a revised wage offer to Solidarity, the union reported on Friday.
This followed after a third conciliation meeting between the parties ended in a deadlock at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), and after Solidarity obtained a strike certificate.
Solidarity professional industry head Johan Botha said the union had already communicated the revised offer to its members and was awaiting feedback. By Monday, Solidarity would know whether its members have accepted the offer.
The wage negotiations between Solidarity and Comair, an affiliate of Kulula and British Airways airlines, started in September. In December, the trade union referred a dispute to the CCMA, after which the conciliation process started.
The trade union had demanded an almost 13% increase for its 210 cabin crew members at Comair, but the airline had offered either an increase of 7.5% on their total cost package, or an increase of 8% on condition that overtime would only be calculated after 125 hours a month.
Solidarity was the majority trade union and represented 210 members of Comair’s 389-strong cabin crew.
