Project Description
The project involves the Phase 3 development of a 150 MW power plant, in Panay, part of the Visayas, the group of islands situated south of the main island of Luzon.

The state-of-the art power plant extension complements the existing two 82 MW clean coal technology units (Phase 1 and 2), which became operational in 2011, and will supply power to consumers on Panay Island and into the Visayas power grid. The project includes the construction of a coal handling facility.

PEDC broke ground on its expansion project on March 7. The project is expected to come into commercial operation in 2016.

Latest Developments
PEDC has awarded Pöyry the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, on an open book basis, for the coal handling system for the project.
The assignment includes:
• an extension of the existing jetty by 65 m;
• the coal conveying system, with a capacity of 900 t/h from the jetty to the coal storage;
• the covered coal storage yard with a capacity to store 85 000 t of coal; and
• the coal conveying system, with a capacity of 2 × 300 t/h, from the coal storage yard to the coal crusher building and associated works such as piling and civil works, the firefighting system, lighting and utilities.

Construction started in November and is due to be completed by early February 2016.
