Project Description
The Clairwood Logistics Park will be located on the site of the former Clairwood racecourse.
The project comprises the construction of 350 000 m2 of warehousing and distribution facilities, with the remainder of the site being converted into paved yards to service the facilities.
The development will also include an 8 ha wetland.
Value
R3.5-billion, which includes R110-million that will be spent on extensive upgrades of roads and infrastructure.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
Latest Developments
KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Michael Mabuyakhulu approved the project at the end of January, after his department had found that the amended environmental-impact assessment (EIA) adequately addressed the concerns raised during an appeal in May 2015.
The department concluded that the public participation process followed in the EIA process was more than compliant with EIA regulations, with stringent parameters outlined for development in response to objections raised.
As a result, appeals lodged in response to the environmental authorisation granted in May were dismissed and the original decision was upheld.
