The 2016 Enactus South Africa National Competition, set to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on 27 and 28 July 2016, will provide university students with the opportunity to showcase projects aimed at improving the standard of living for communities through enterprising business innovation.

With business leaders serving as judges in the competition, Enactus provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects and to be evaluated accordingly. The competition allows South Africa’s best and brightest student minds to demonstrate how they tackled the socio-economic challenges their communities face and with entrepreneurial ingenuity.

The South African chapter of Enactus is geared towards producing healthy competition for this year’s nationals, with the national champion teams advancing to the Enactus World Cup to be hosted in Toronto, Canada later this year. With 27 teams of 3 325 students, who have participated in 112 social development projects and have volunteered 319 629 hours during 2015, the stakes are sure to be high for the teams competing.

"The 2016 Enactus National Competition will again display the enthusiasm, initiative and enterprise of motivated young people making a contribution to the South African development story. Their entrepreneurial skills on display will identify the students as young leaders, deserving the support of business as we all address the needs of society,” says KPMG’s John Saker, Partner, Sales & Markets.

“Our backing of the event spans many years, spurred by the progress that has been made through our progressive contributions to communities,” says Saker. “KPMG’s support comes in the form of funding, judging and mentorship, with the ultimate aim of empowering young future leaders to influence positive change in their communities.”

Through collaborative engagement, KPMG and other Enactus donors have played an important role in ensuring Enactus and the work it does for social upliftment continues. Through corporate involvement, companies have been able to engage employees, recruit top talent, connect leaders, and build positive recognition between organisations and the communities they serve.

“Social development is at the heart of the KPMG organisation and our partnership with Enactus continues to allow us to apply our passions, talents and thinking to positively impact as many lives as possible,” concludes Saker.

KPMG wishes all the Enactus National competitors all the best and we are proud to be part of an initiative that continues to break boundaries to improve quality of life around the world.
