Following the release of the Black Management Forum's Corporate Management Competency Index research, which found that “females were rated as more competent than males by their male counterparts, while females rated males as more competent than themselves”, South Africa’s first female deputy auditor-general has been appointed.

The forum said in a statement on Thursday that the appointment of “seasoned” auditor Tsakani Ratsela would “no doubt” result in an infusion of new ideas and innovative thinking.

“With the auditor-general playing a critical role in shaping how the South African government policies and procedures are effectively implemented, Ratsela’s appointment is a step in the right direction towards addressing the bleak picture concerning gender equality in South Africa.

“Her appointment will absolutely bring diversity in thinking with recommendations for improvement in government policy execution being inclusive in nature,” the forum noted.
