A 344.5 t wax reactor for petrochemicals giant Sasol’s Fisher-Tropsch wax expansion project, which kicked off in 2010, has arrived in Richards Bay, Kwa-Zulu-Natal, from South Korea.

The reactor would now be transported by road to the Sasol One site, travelling through Pongola, in KwaZulu-Natal, and Piet Retief, in southern Mpumalanga, and “a short section” of Gauteng before reaching Sasolburg, in the Free Sate, for wax production.

On completion of the second phase of the project, which was currently under way, the facility was expected to double the company’s production of hard wax in South Africa.

“This is in line with Sasol’s strategy to leverage our advanced proprietary technology and is also aligned with our longer-term plans to significantly grow the chemicals businesses of the Sasol group,” Sasol Wax MD Thomas Luedemann noted.

The expansion project formed part of the larger Sasol Sasolburg expansion programme, which included various large projects at the group’s operational facilities.
