BBBEE Commission to embark on awareness campaign
The Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Commission will on Tuesday hold an awareness campaign about the BBBEE Amendment Act at the Daveyton Community Hall, in Gauteng.
The Act was enacted to create the BBBEE Commission, which oversees and monitors the implementation of the Act and deals with and investigates contravention and fronting practices.
The information sessions are intended to raise awareness and educate communities on BBBEE and its benefits to society, the role of the commission and to guide stakeholders on preventing possible fronting practices.
BBBEE Commission compliance director Busisiwe Ngwenya says the rationale and motivation behind this campaign is to focus on creating an economy that can meet the needs of all citizens and their enterprises in a sustainable manner.
“Economic growth, development and BBBEE are complementary and related
processes. Government’s approach is that BBBEE must be an inclusive process,” she notes.
The information and awareness sessions will also focus on the Codes of Good Practice and provide guidance on the accreditation process by the South African National Accreditation System.
“Raising awareness of the basics of BBBEE and how it affects individuals will go a long way to prevent incorrect and bad practices. While the commission deals with existing problems, it is important to also ensure we [prevent] more from occurring in the future,” Ngwenya says.
